This is... The Ru-Mix

After a year's hiatus to focus on the website I co-founded, occupythedisco.com, I am back to creating exclusive mixes for Made in Brazil -- a blog and magazine that has inspired me in the past to make some of the best mixtapes of my career. This latest Ru-Mix, Benediction, is a celebration of all things summer. Whether you're a Brazilian friend winding down the warmer months down south, or a New Yorker wondering when the heat will finally arrive, this mixtape is sure to have you yearning for some fun in the sun. The mix is very heavy on vocals and house music, and there's a just a little bit of disco in there to make you smile on the dancefloor.

Here's a new mixtape I made especially for Occupy the Disco (OXD). The title, "Makes Me Wanna Give It," is a nod to the Duke Dumont track, 'Giver' that has made the crowd go absolutely wild at previous OXD events (both Aeroplane and The Magician played the track at the climax of their sets). I've built the mixtape around that track and created an energizing, dance ready house mix that will have you itching to find a dancefloor.

It all started when someone asked me the question: what songs would be on the soundtrack of your life? 

When it comes to feelings, i certainly am not the most articulate person. That probably explains why I'm so obsessed with music, it's therapeutic as it helps me articulate how I feel.  Whether I'm up or down, I always find it's best to commiserate with that which I find closest to me, my songs.  I'm not sure you're aware but every Ru-Mix i put out tells a story, with a beginning, middle and end, and it's a snapshot of what is going through my head at that time. With my 31st birthday quickly approaching, and hitting a milestone of 100 mixes, I wanted to share my story, of the past 10 years of my life. So take the journey with me as I celebrate my upcoming birthday  and realize that I am "still getting younger."  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

It's a dancey, high energy mix that revives that 80's sound with elements of nu disco, all while throwing caution to the wind and celebrating reckless abandon… Its complementary, "cool down" mix, 'Ru-Mix: I Can Love You', shares the same elements and brings them poolside. After all, there's nothing like soulful vocals and dreamy beats that will have your heart yearning to share the well of emotions that will inevitably overflow… as Ru-Mix fans know all to well.
